Our time is valuable, and we must take into consideration how we spend our time. We can be tricked to become a people-pleaser, and we forget that God wants our attention. I was given a dream where I saw how I was distracted to please people while the Lord was waiting patiently for my attention.
This is the dream he gave me: I was in a kitchen where I had offered to cook for a group of people. I had a pot on the oven which were filled with potatoes while I was busy walking back and forth in the kitchen. A man was sitting on a chair, watching me while I walked back and forth. I passed by him several times. I knew in the dream that this was Jesus sitting on the chair. Each time I passed by him, I avoided eye contact with him. I felt embarrassed that I didn’t stop and spent time with him. I was busy with the cooking.
I have never been known for my cooking! I became aware that the potatoes had been overcooked, they had become mashed potatoes. I was discouraged. I considered for a moment to start all over again with a new pot but instead sat down and said to myself, “I can’t even cook potatoes!”
I walked over to a sofa and sat down. In my dream, there was also a sofa on the opposite of me behind my back. I noticed that Jesus had moved closer to me and was now sitting behind me on the opposite sofa. Suddenly I felt his hand was touching my arm. It was like he was saying by his touch, “I am here waiting for you.” I had been busy with the potato pot while he had been waiting for me all this time. The Lord had moved closer to me in my brokenness. How could I overlook such love? I woke up from the dream and soon forgot the potato dream.
Later that day, I received a message from a new friend on Facebook. She claimed to be a Christian but didn’t show much evidence which confirmed her faith. This woman sent me a picture of a potato pot and a recipe. The picture reminded of the dream I had that morning, and it looked exactly as the same potato pot. It was unbelievable.
The Lord had already warned me how people are sent to distract us from spending time with him. My dream reminded me of the story in the Bible (Luke 10:38–42) where Jesus visits the two sisters’ house, Martha and Mary. Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has let me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things”. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part which will not be taken away from her. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29).
So the Lord is coming back and all his Martha’s needs to prepare themselves as Mary’s.
